Reflection:
My internship at Roundtable Analytics was a huge learning experience and I am so grateful for the experience that I gained through it. Throughout my internship I gained many useful skills that I will be able to use in college and in my career. Learning how to program in R and Shiny is a skill that I can use throughout my career, and gave me a look into open source programming. Throughout my internship I gained a lot of knowledge about how businesses work and how startups work. I also learned a lot about myself and the career I want to pursue. This internship showed me that I do want to pursue a career in computer programming. I also learned that I do not want a programming career in analytics. I cannot thank Dr. Bohrmann enough for the opportunity that he gave me at Roundtable Analytics.

Reflection: Some of the major frustrations that I have had in the internship have been with using open source tools. While open source is free, it is not very user friendly, and often does not have documentation. To solve my problems with open source, I often had to spend multiple hours reading forums or trying different ways to solve problems. By the end of my internship I knew a lot about how R worked and how to deal with these kinds of problems. This meant that by the end of my internship I was a very capable R programmer and was able to deal with many bugs that came up while designing the application.

Reflection: Through this internship I have learned a lot about myself and my programming abilities. My ability to program and learn a new language is a lot more useful than I previously thought, and I believe I want to peruse a career in computer programming. A lot of jobs in the programming field are starting to focus on analytics, which I have learned is not something I'm interested in. I think I will pursue a career in computer programming that is not at a large analytics company.

Reflection: This experience has not had a large affect on my college plans.Before this internship, I wanted to go to NC State for computer science, and that hasn't changed. My career plans haven't changed much either. I still want to be a computer programmer, but I am now thinking about working in a startup out of college instead of going straight into a large business. I do not believe I want to go into analytics, which is something I have learned from this internship. While I do enjoy my internship, I think programming in something other than analytics would be better for me.

Reflection: My duties have changed a lot since I first started. When I first started, I took an online course that taught me a lot about startups and how to run a business. When I began working in R, Tommy helped me and gave me some general tips to get started. My duties now are a lot more independent. I design and update the application basically on my own, and the application is basically in my hands. This is a lot more responsibility, but I enjoy designing the application.

Reflection: My main contribution to my internship is my programming knowledge and the application I am designing. I am very proud of teaching myself the programming language R and designing my application from scratch. When I started this internship I knew nothing about R, but I was able to learn about the language through research and online tools. After I gained some knowledge of R, I was able to design my application with basic features and get it running on a website. I believe this shows my accomplishments as a programmer and my ability to design applications.

Reflection: The internship is meeting my expectations. I am learning a lot about running a business and the use of programming to run a business. I am also learning a lot about how you can use design an application around a data set, and how useful that data can be. I do have control of this, because Tommy has been asking me what I want to do and how I am enjoying my internship.
